Eleven months ago I read a quote from J.F.K. that said, “efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” At the time I was thinking of the many students who come into my office lacking just that. I wondered at the time, if it were possible for us to do more in order to give them purpose or a clear direction. As I pondered the thought I recalled the numerous students I had helped along the way. Was it the effort that I had poured into them that helped them succeed? Or was it that they themselves had finally found their sense of purpose and/or direction? I believe it to be the latter for it is within each person to find his or her own purpose. Parents, educators and even strangers can often times help along the way, but it is within each individual to find their direction and follow it. It is my guess that Walt Disney didn’t have the approval of 100 people before he created his masterpiece; he just had a vision, a dream, a clear sense of where he wanted to be and what he wanted to accomplish and he went for it. People spend so many hours of their day, moments of their lives blaming everyone else, when all they have to do is look in the mirror, and tell themselves every day, “what are you going to accomplish today to make the world better?” We were all born with a purpose, of that I am 100 percent sure. Some of us were even given several to accomplish along the way. However, it is up to us to find that purpose and pursue it with everything we’ve got. And I know that the words I am putting on this paper are easier said than done, but hey, life is not easy, no one said it would be! Life is about living, waking up every morning and making the sound decision to be the best you you can possibly be regardless of the circumstance, the people surrounding you or the challenges you face. So, as you make it through the week my dear readers, I challenge you to find your purpose, to secure your direction and to be the best version of yourself every day! Who knows maybe one day your name might appear on the doors of a theme park, or even better!
